Deewaanapan (2001) is a superhit Bollywood movie directed by Ashu Trikha starring Arjun Rampal and Dia Mirza in lead roles.

Suraj Saxena (Arjun Rampal) hails from a remote hill station and lives with his father, Prakash Saxena (Om Puri), mother, Mrs. Saxena (Smita Jaykar) and sister, Asha Saxena (Amita Nangia). A small group of girls visit the hill station and Suraj gets attracted to one of the girls, Kiran Choudhary (Dia Mirza). He offers them help to see around the entire hill station. Eventually, the two fall in love. Prakash suffers from chest pain and is rushed to the hospital due to which Suraj is unable to see off Kiran. He is also unable to concentrate on work and constantly thinks of Kiran and the days they spent together. After Asha’s marriage, the family decides to relocate to Mumbai. On shifting to Mumbai, Suraj searches for Kiran but fails to find her. He takes admission in a college, makes many friends and is one of the popular basketball players. When he again comes in contact with Kiran, their love blossoms again. Ranvir Choudhary (Vinod Khanna), Kiran’s dad comes to know about their love and warns Suraj to leave the city. Suraj does not pay attention to the same and continues staying in Mumbai. Not following the orders, Suraj’s family is being troubled and harassed at various places. His mom is humiliated in public and no food vendor is allowed to sell food to Suraj’s mother. His father is being followed by Ranvir’s goons, harassed, robbed humiliated in the market and also false charges are laid on him due to which he loses his job and is sent to jail. Suraj is also beaten up by Ranvir’s goons many times. Will Suraj still stay in Mumbai? Will he continue loving Kiran after what is happening to his family? Will their love survive the test of time?
